"This powerful mantra of Shiva the Rudra removes physical, mental, and celestial ailments. Like Gayatri, this is an all- purpose mantra and is commonly prescribed by astrologers, vaidyas (medicine men), and Tantrics. Japa of 125,00 times removes the fear of death, even if the condition of the ailing person is so severe that the doctors become helpless and no medicine works. After japa, homa should be done with 12,500 repetitions of the mantra and an offering of black sesame seeds with each. Mahamrityunjaya is a name of Shiva, the Lord of Destruction. As Mahakala he is Lord of Death. Meditation on the Shiva with four arms is necessary. In his Mahamrityunjaya form, Shiva is sitting in a pond. Two of his arms are holding water pots, from which he is pouring water over his head. His third hand on the right side is doing a mala, and in his fourth hand on the left side he has another water pot, from which water is constantly issuing. Sometimes one of his right hands is shown in a blessing mudra (gesture). Mahamrityunjaya Mantra is supposed to give victory over death, suffering, and disease. It removes obstacles, creates a suitable environment, and bring happiness to life." Tools for Tantra p. 43, Harish Johari "Mahamrityunjaya Mantra (maha-mrityun-jaya) is one of the more potent of the ancient Sanskrit mantras. Maha mrityunjaya is a call for enlightenment and is a practice of purifying the karmas of the soul at a deep level. It is also said to be quite beneficial for mental, emotional, and physical health. It is said that whoever recites this mantra everyday will not die an early death." http://www.answers.com/topic/mahamrityunjaya Mantra: Aum Tryambakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam Urvarukamiva Bandhanan Mrityor Mukshiya Maamritat Meaning: I worship the fragrant three-eyed god, Lord Shiva, who nourishes all beings.
